Australia’s rainbow lorikeets are vivid, beautiful creatures who love a free feed. This girl found a small group of them and decided to attempt to feed them. No problem. They were happy to play with her for in exchange for apple. We stood and watched their interactions for a while as these wild birds became one with her. The joy on her face was priceless.
Yes, they are lovely, sweet little birds. They have them in a zoo in Cornwall and there, you have to buy a little carton of nectar/sugar to give them. They are quite happy to cling to your hair as they eat, a really weird sensation!
They fly in flocks and land on our fences and verandahs and make a lot of noise hoping to be feed. We used to have a bird feeding platform which was fun. I think one day I counted 36 rainbow lorikeets.
The green parrots stand out against the brilliant red shirt.
My thoughts exactly. I couldn’t have planned it better if I had any control. Random girl and random birds.
Would love to see these in real life!
It is special. As it is common in Australia I don’t think we realise how special it is.
