Share Your World – 2016 Week #7

What are you a “natural” at doing?

I am naturally good at the balance sport—trampoling, roller skating and ice skating.

I am naturally good at resolving conflicts and being the go to person when people want a friend to talk to. I would get the ex best friends talking again and suddenly I was being ignored again.

I am a naturally good at knitter. The first time I created something my teacher didn’t believe that I had done it because it was too perfect and looked like my mother had knitted it.

Would you prefer a one floor house or multiple levels?

Having lived in both I definitely prefer an open plan single storey house.

What was your favorite subject in school?

I don’t remember having a favourite subject at school although possibly home science. I did okay at school but I had to work at it.

Complete this sentence: If only the rain.. would stop or turn into snow. This is what my husband and I said to each other last Christmas when we had traveled to Canada for a white Christmas and the rain kept washing away the small amount of snow we got.

“What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?”

Last week I was grateful for the many learn opportunities I had at work through mistakes made. This week I am looking forward to giving my 10th advanced speech and receiving my Advanced Communicator Bronze award at Toastmasters.

Share Your World 2016 – Week 1

As a child, who was your favorite relative?

I would have to choose Nanny, my father’s mother. She lived with us in a separate granny flat until my early teenage years and was always good for a treat. She even let Santa know one year that we wanted a swing set, which he delivered on Christmas morning.

If you could be a tree or plant, what would you be?

As an Australia I love Wattle. It booms in early Spring and it looks glorious when in full bloom. Wattle is our national floral emblem as well as the colours of Australia—green and gold. For more information on see my previous post attached.

What would be your preference, awake before dawn or awake before noon?

Many years ago it would have been sleep to noon, however these days I get up early and a sleep in for me is 8 o’clock.

Would you like to sleep in a human size nest in a tree or be snuggled in a burrowed spot underground?

Being a bit claustrophobic I would choose the human size nest as long as there no wind to destabilize it.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Last week I got to catch up with a girlfriend of over 20 years in our annual date although this year we are working on making it more frequent. This week I am looking forward having a day off on Friday—my first for 2016.

What is your greatest extravagance?

These days I would spend the most money on books. I love bookshops especially secondhand ones and regularly several spend hours in them and buy many books in one hit.

Do you prefer exercising your mind or your body? How frequently do you do either?

I exercise my mind daily at work so I enjoy stopping it from working with some quiet time. One way I enjoy doing this is through getting physical. Time limits the amount of exercise I do and I do miss spending time at the beach. Bring on retirement so I have more time to exercise.

List at least 5 things that makes you laugh.

  • Spending time with family and friends.
  • The Golden Girls
  • Dancing
  • Television shows I watched as a child e.g. The Brady Bunch
  • Watch young children and animals play

What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Our speech night went well at Toastmasters and this week I am looking forward to several laughs catching up with family.

What type of popular candy you do not like to get?

I am not a big candy fan however if I am in the mood I can eat most types. The candy I have consistently refused to eat all my life is candy bananas. I like fresh bananas however anything else banana flavoured including candy or lollies as we call them in Australia is a no go zone.

What do you feel is the most enjoyable way to spend $500?

A mini-break to the Blue Mountains would be a great way to spend $500.00. It has been years since I have visited the Three Sisters, Echo Point or Leura . The Blue Mountains are 100 kilometres west of Sydney so they are ideal for a quick and relaxing get away. Spring is a great time to visit before it gets too hot and bush fire season settles in with many walking trails closed due to risks.

Where do you eat breakfast?

I eat breakfast most days at the computer working on Inspiring Max or visiting other blogs I follow. Everyone else in the house is usually asleep so my connecting with my digital world doesn’t mean my family is rejected.

Would you rather ride one of the world’s longest zip lines or bungee jump one of the highest in the world? This will come with a 5-day all expense vacation.

I would never bungee jump as I am concerned about the effect of the bounce back on my body. A zip line however I would love to try. To me they are a flying fox on a much bigger scale and I have always loved playing on a flying fox even as a adult. Once on a family camping trip my father made a flying fox and we had hours of fun on it.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for this week and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

During the past week I am grateful that I have been able to return to blogging and was able to blog on average every second day, a doubly of my recent posting rate.

This week at Toastmasters we are having our first ever speech-a-thon. A night with no other assignments just 10 speech instead of the usual 4. It will be an inspiring night from which I know I will learn new things.

Share Your World 2015 – Week 45

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word “fun”?

I love having fun. Doing something spontaneous that involves lots of laughter. I may be in my 50’s but I am happy to play games and have fun at every opportunity.

What is your favorite time of day?

I don’t think I really have one. Although there is something beautiful about sunrise and sunset.

Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want have a evening with?

I would love to spend an evening with Louise Hay. She is a very powerful motivator and positive thinker. She thinks outside the box, has many creative ideas to solve problems and literally hundreds of positive daily affirmations. She is also the owner of Balboa Press the self-publishing company I am using to publish my book next year so I am sure she could supply some great tips.

“Don’t be afraid to be you. The world needs your unique brand of awesomeness.” Louise Hay

Complete this sentence: Something that anyone can do that will guarantee my smile is…

Smile at me. I will always return a genuine smile and connect with the other person. If I smile at someone first and they return my smile, my smile gets bigger.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Last week I was grateful for family time celebrating my son’s birthday and my work Christmas party celebrating together the year that was 2015. This week I am looking forward to getting back to blogging more regularly as life has gotten in the way a bit recently.

Share Your World – 2015 Week 41

What genre of music do you like?

I like multiple genres of music. The determining factor for me is that the music must have meaningful words. I don’t like music styles without words such as classical, nor do I like heavy metal or songs that repeat the same words over again.  The more meaning and motivation behind the song the better. One of my favourite songs, Helen Reddy’s I Am Woman has motivated me over many decades.

What is the worst thing you ate this last week?

I rarely eat takeaway food however last Friday my husband and I shared some fresh, yummy, crispy hand battered potato scallops. Many years ago good potato scallops were everywhere however these days prepackaged frozen ones have taken over and in my opinion they are not worth eating.

Would you like to be famous?  In what way?

I don’t wish to be famous in a way that my life is directed by others. However as a writer, when I publish my book next year I would like to be well known and respected for my expertise and if this leads to fame I will enjoy the journey.

Complete this sentence:  This sandwich could really use some …

Rocket and chilli sauce as it needs spicing up.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Last week I was grateful to perform well enough at my Area Table topics competition for Toastmasters to come 3rd. In the coming week I am looking forward to having some me time as life has been very busy lately.

Share Your World – 2015 Week 37

If you could have three wishes granted for you alone, what would they be?

I would love to have a week’s writing and tuition in Tuscany, Italy.

I would love to have someone take over the final editing of my book and let me know that it is ready.

My last wish would be to win lotto so I could stop working, slow down my pace of life and move to the country.

What is the most incredible natural venue that you’ve ever seen in person?

I love the Blue Mountains, Australia and Niagara Falls, Canada.

Blue Mountains Australia

Niagara Falls

Is your hair short (total neck and ear showing), medium (covering ears and neck), long (below shoulders) or extra-long (at least halfway down your back)?

My hair is medium length. Basically it won’t grow past a certain point. If is is not cut it grows outwards and gets more frizzy.

List some of your favorite blogs.

I have many favourite blogs so here are just a few.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

This week I am grateful the difficult times of the last few weeks are over and improving. This week I am looking forward to getting back to working on my book and my blog.

Share Your World – 2015 Week 23

For your blog do you basically use Mac or Windows applications.  What type of device laptop, desktop, tablet, phone or pad?

Most of the time I write my blog from my main Windows 8 computer which has a big screen and is easy to read. When I travel I write on my lap top also Windows 8 but it is much smaller and more difficult to read. When I was in Canada for 6 weeks I got very used to it and it wasn’t till I go home that I realised how much easier my desk top is to use.

If you were to treat yourself to the “finer things” what would you treat yourself to?

If I were to treat myself to the finer things in life I would choose a weekend away of luxury at a day spa in the country with a girl friend. French champagne, strawberries and seafood would of course be on the menu. I would also like some 1:1 time with a good book and an open fire is to be included.

Can you change a car tire?

I can change a tire and have done so on a busy highway although these days I would most likely call the NRMA road side assist to do it for me. My reasoning for this is that if I have to pay them $500 plus dollars a year to be a member they can earn their money. I am also getting older so I am not happy to be roughing it in the dirt anymore.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Last weekend I was happy to get some serious editing done on my book and to print out the first part in book form using Pressbooks. I am one proud nearly published author motivated to move on to the published stage. This week I am looking forward to catching up with family—having some laughs and a few drinks.

Share Your World – 2015 Week 19

Would you prefer a one floor house or multiple levels?

I prefer a house on one level. It makes it easier to live in and opens out the house. As I am beginning to age, I will make sure my next house is on a single level—just-in-case it is the last house I buy. Afterall, stairs and old age don’t mix.

When we lived in Wagga Wagga, country New South Wales, we had a great house built on one level. The previous owners liked the design so much that they rebuilt the exact design in their new suburb. If we ever built I definitely would consider it myself.

If you have a TV, would you prefer the TV in the living room or another room?

I prefer TV’s to be in either the lounge room or the family room. These rooms are places people congregate in, although in a perfect world maybe my home would have a designated home theatre room. The one place I don’t like a TV is in the bedroom as it disturbs my sleep.

When you leave a room, do you turn the lights off behind you or keep the lights on throughout your house most of the time? Explain your answer.

When I leave a room I prefer to leave the light on unless I know I won’t be returning to that room for over an hour. I think it is cheaper than turning lights on and off regularly. My husband however has other ideas and he is always trying to get me to turn lights off.

What’s your favorite room in your home?

I don’t really have a favourite room.  However, I spend most of my time on my computer in the family room at the back of the house. I have also managed to make it my own by decorating it in purple and adding my Mickey Mouse collection.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Last week my father came for a visit and brought me some editing of my book he had finished. It is always exciting to get feedback from others on the progress ogf my book. This week is my daughters 21st birthday and I am looking forward to helping her celebrate with parties at home.
