I: Idyllic Sunrise

One of the things I love doing on our recent holiday was watching the sunrise. I would frequently look at the time for sunrise and get up just before. Fortunately, because of Day Light Savings time sunrise wasn’t until 0700 so my sleep wasn’t really impacted. Below is a mix of the sunrise I was rewarded with.

The other great thing about sunrise in the country was the birds came to life. The cacophony they made was amazing. I love it so much I made a recording of it but unfortunately I am unable to share it through WordPress.

P – Pelicans

2015-08-21 11.54.18

Australian pelicans are  beautiful, majestic birds and whether they are alone or in large groups, I can and have sat to watch them for hours. To see one find, catch and swallow a fish is an amazing sight.

Growing up I loved the Australian movie — Storm Boy. I loved it so much that when it recently came out on DVD, I bought  a copy and I plan on enjoying a trip down memory lane one day soon. Storm Boy is about the adventures of a boy and his pelican. To this day I don’t know how they trained the pelican to interact so intimately with a young human. Have a sneak peek at the following trailer and let me know your ideas.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Vivid

Australia’s rainbow lorikeets are vivid, beautiful  creatures who love a free feed. This girl found a small group of them and decided to attempt to feed them. No problem. They were happy to play with her for in exchange for apple. We stood and watched their interactions for a while as these wild birds became one with her. The joy on her face was priceless.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Rule of Thirds

This week, compose your subject off-center, obeying the Rule of Thirds.

For this weeks photo challenge I have chosen photos taken last winter when kookaburras decided to visit our yard on separate occasions. Taking the photos was a challenge as I didn’t want to scare them off, but wanted to get up close enough to use the rule of thirds. For a beginner photographer I was happy with the results.
